In New Jersey, the determination of child support is usually based upon the number of children and the parents' relative incomes. If you are a W-2 employee, it is a matter of putting numbers into the child support guidelines and coming up with the appropriate child support figure.

Issues do however arise when one or both of the parents have incomes that fluctuate or may in some ways be unstable. Kevin Meehan is experienced in handling matters that involve determining the appropriate income that should be imputed to the parties where earnings are not easily identifiable. In those cases where the wife is purposely unemployed or underemployed, we will fight vigorously to have the court recognize the tactic and impute an appropriate income level to her so that any award of child support is justified and fair.

We believe that every father has an obligation to provide financial support for his children. We also believe that the amount of support must be fair, equitable and reasonable.
